Did you know you have to burn 3500 calories to lose 1 single pound? Oh, and running 1 mile only burns roughly 100 calories. So, in order to lose 1lb, you need to run roughly 35 miles! That’s 5 miles per day for 7 days.
First of all, who has that kind of time!? Second, why not work smarter not harder? I recently read an article on Inc.com (below) where they provide 5 natural body weight workout moves that can be as effective if not more than any run. You’ll burn more calories with less work because lifting weight, even body weight causes your metabolism to increase burning more calories throughout the day, and after a couple weeks you’ll look better too. You don’t believe me? Ask Herschel Walker (if you can get access to him). At age 56 he’s more in shape than most 30 year olds, and credits his 2000 sit-ups and push-ups per day as the reason.
Now, I’m not suggesting you do that many sit-ups and push-ups per day. However, I am suggesting you consider a natural body weight workout before thinking you need to kill your knees and shins, and turn your body into a beanpole. You can also get your bottom to the gym, and workout using weight machines or free weights. Start at a level that won’t burn you out, and make you hate going. Not sure what to do at the gym?
